Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour has announced he will release his first solo album in almost a decade later this year.

Gilmour announced the news via his website. He didn’t provide any more details about the release of what is to be his fourth solo studio album, but did say it is meant to coincide with a string of September tour dates. The as-yet-untitled album will follow up 2006’s On an Island.

In the time between solo albums Gilmour was working on Pink Floyd’s farewell album, The Endless River, their first new material in over two decades which came out last year. The album featired mainly ambient and instrumental music pulled from sessions for their last album, The Division Bell. It included contributions from late keyboardist Rick Wright and, according to the band, is their last.

“This is the last thing that’ll be out from us,” Gilmour told BBC 6 Music about the record last year. “I’m pretty certain that there will not be a follow up to this.” Gilmour also added that he still has some recorded sessions with Wright which he may use for his new solo record.

“I have a little bit of Rick playing from my solo stuff that will hopefully appear on my next solo album, but not a Pink Floyd album,” he said.

A few months back Gilmour made an appearance at a Bombay Bicycle Club gig in London, where he joined them in playing their track Rinse Me Down as well as Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here. Watch video of that collaboration, via Rolling Stone, below.
